API in Sharjah, UAE: American University of Sharjah

API students at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) choose from a range of undergraduate classes open to Emirati and international students.

AUS awards credit in similar fashion to most U.S. universities. Students generally take 4-5 classes in order to receive 12-16 credit hours per semester. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they are enrolled in the required amount of semester credits to meet requirements of the home university. In all departments, entrance to specific courses is subject to the approval of AUS and the completion of certain prerequisites.

ARABIC STUDIES HYBRID PROGRAMS
Students who are interested in studying in the Middle East but would like to brush up on their Arabic language and cultural studies may elect to apply for one of two API Arabic Studies hybrid program options.

3 Term, 3 Country Option
Students may choose to begin their Arabic language and cultural studies in our summer program at the University of Seville in Andalucia, Southern Spain – one of the last major strongholds of the Moors in Europe. Here students study Arabic language and culture for the month of July. Students then spend the fall semester at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London. From there, students finish their studies by completing a spring term at The American University of Sharjah.

2 Term, 2 Country Option
Students may also elect to begin their studies in London in the fall (foregoing the summer session in Seville) before continuing their program in the spring in Sharjah.

These options provide a great opportunity for students to develop their Arablic language skills and cultural awareness for a full term before immersing themselves directly into an Arabic culture – and to study abroad in two or three completely different countries in the process!
