New York. Paris. Milan. Jacksonville. Jacksonville Fashion Week (JFW) returned for its third year on March 27-30 to continue its mission of putting our city on the map as a fashion hub. Each year, the events get bigger and better, and the fashion community of Jacksonville grows and becomes more defined.

Natural Life Festival is family fun and entertainment
On March 10, 2013, the Natural Life Company sponsored the Community First Natural Life Music Festival where families could come together and enjoy a splendid day out in the beautiful spring weather. People were encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to relax in the big Metropolitan Park field while listening to the wonderful music performed by local folk artists.

Everyone has heard the saying “You can’t teach an old dog news tricks”. This saying was proven wrong by Hank, a French bulldog, who was 5 years old when I taught him how to shake. Filled with joy and an eagerness to learn, Hank and I went to see Pals and Paws, a dog agility club event Feb.

“Welcome everyone. Most of you have heard about my journey to find the elusive Chick-fil-A girl, but for those who haven’t, here’s the story. Back in February, I went to Chick-fil-A during their college night special. There I saw a beautiful girl studying a picture,” Jordan Tucker wrotes as an introduction to his Facebook page titled Real Life Love Story.

Pell Grant confusion resolved
1600 students whom were mistakenly awarded loans and Pell Grants and then told they would have to pay the money back can breathe a sigh of relief. In a meeting on April 8, The FSCJ Board of Trustees voted to retire the debt owed by those students and put it on the shoulders of the college instead.

FSCJ Interim President is ready for the challenge
When Steve Wallace stepped down as president of FSCJ in December, the direction in which the college seemed to be heading was a bad one. Financial aid and administration problems plagued the institution, and many wondered where we would go from here.

Celebrating Black History
When people think of February, most likely they think of Valentine’s Day. However, February is known for a different sort of celebration too; the celebration of important Americans known as Black History Month. Black History Month was originally Negro History Week and was founded by Association for the Study of Negro Life and History historian Carter Woodson in 1926.
