Women’s volleyball barely over .500 mark

The Florida State College Women's volleyball team faced the College of Central Florida for a second time this year on Oct. 4, and lost in a tightly contested match, two sets to three.

The team then traveled to Bradenton to play in the Miami Dade College Tournament. The Stars faced stiff competition in all four of their matches, coming out with an even split, emerging with two wins and two losses in the tournament.

They racked up wins against South Florida CC, winning in straight sets 25-15, 25-21, 25-21, and lost one set in a win against State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota, 22-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-23. The team lost their final two games of the tournament to Missouri State University-West Plains 5-25, 19-25, 25-14, 17-25 and College of Central Florida 25-18, 25-18, 8-25, 19-25, 11-15.

On Oct. 11, the volleyball team suffered another tough five set loss to local rival St. Johns River State College, losing 20-25, 27-29, 25-18, 25-14, 13-15. The Stars overall record now sits at 12 wins and 11 losses.

On Oct. 14-15 the Stars will host a home tournament consisting of six nationally recognized teams and at the same time, raise money to fight breast cancer. The Dig Pink Tournament will have several events including raffles, items for sale, and free giveaways designed to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer.
