API in Granada, Spain: Spanish Language and Culture summer

Description

This program has a joint focus on language and culture, allowing the student to develop and improve his/her linguistic skills while enjoying an introduction to the major topics of Spanish culture. In addition to the Spanish language class, classes are available in Spanish history, Spanish literature, history of Spanish art, Islamic culture, and more.

The Spanish Language & Culture program offers an optional Spanish language class (40 contact hours), a variety of cultural electives (each worth 20 contact hours), and a Spanish conversation class (10 or 20 contact hours). Students will take any combination of these courses in order to earn a total of 80-100 contact hours (5-6 semester credits). This typically consists of 3-5 classes. Students participating in the summer 1&2 combined session will not take more than 4 cultural electives (each worth 20 contact hours) during their second session. They will take a total of 100 contact hours during the first session and 80 contact hours during the second session for a total of 180 contact hours (12 semester credits).

Students must take a placement test upon arrival to show that they have an Intermediate level (European Framework level B1.1) of Spanish (or above). These courses are offered at three levels: Intermediate, Advanced and Superior (Granada levels B1.1, B1.2, B2.1, B2.2, C1 and C2). Students who do not place high enough to participate in the Language and Culture program can switch to the Intensive Language Program.
