The Stars, shown here against the College of Central Florida Patriots, have a 17-13 record.

The Stars volleyball team took three straight games from Lake Sumter Community College on Oct. 22 to grab 2nd place in the Mid-Florida Conference. Second place guarantees the Stars a berth in the Florida District/Region Vlll Tournament, which will be held on the South Campus Sports Center on Nov. 3 – 6. This is the first time in several years that FSCJ has hosted the regional tournament, and fans will get the chance to see the top eight teams from the region battling for a shot at the NJCAA National Tournament Championship.

On Oct. 15, the Stars hosted the Dig Pink Tournament in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During the tournament, all the teams wore pink jerseys and warm-up shirts to show their support in the fight against breast cancer.

Donations and raffles were held to raise money for the Dig Pink foundation and their efforts to help fight cancer. The Stars went 3-1 in the tournament and finished first. The Stars defeated Palm Beach State College 25-23, 25-23, 25-16; defeated Hillsborough Community College 26-24, 25-21, 25-15, defeated Illinois Central College 26-24, 25-81, 12-25, 27-25, and lost to Miami Dade College 22-25, 25-23, 23-25, 13-25.

To clinch second place, the Stars defeated Lake Sumter on Oct. 18 by the scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 28-26. Since that match, the Stars played in two matches on Oct. 22 in Fort Pierce, losing to Indian River State College after an opening win, 25-17, 25-27, 18-25, 22-25; and then came back to win three hard fought games against Hillsborough Community College, 25-12. 20-25, 29-27 and 26-24.

The Stars, whose record is now 17-13, close out their season with two mathes on Friday, Oct. 28 against Pasco Hernando Community College and Brevard State College. Come out and support an exciting and winning team at the regional tournament on South Campus on Nov. 3-6!
