Description

Position works with an experienced machine adjuster learning set-up, trouble-shoot and maintain envelope converting equipment. Successful candidates will have working knowledge of equipment, strong mechanical aptitude, be a self-starter, desire to be promoted, dependable work history, and having previous related machine experience is a plus.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this position will include but are not limited to:

  • Set-up, adjust and maintain automatic, high-speed equipment that converts die-cut blanks or paper rolls into custom envelopes.
  • Set-up and perform trial operation to achieve maximum equipment performance to job specifications
  • Adjustment and calibration of feeding, folding, gumming, sealing, banding and slitting mechanisms to job specifications
  • Locate and retrieve paper and other materials from inventory as needed
  • Installation of gears, plungers, rollers, etc.
  • Provide critical information and job specific instructions to operator and monitor throughout job completion
  • Participate in and promote team problem solving and process improvement
  • Comply with all safety requirements and ensure safety of others throughout the department
  • Maintain production records and equipment logs accurately and timely
  • Understand and embrace Continuous Improvement and support a team environment
  • Open rolls of paper at each machine, check production sheet before opening to make sure more paper is needed for the current job running and correct size
  • Cut rolls off cores when pulled from roll stands
  • Understand the colors on the job tickets, and then assist the adjuster(s) in getting buckets of ink from the ink-station. Check ink levels and fill when needed
  • Clean printer pans when needed
  • Keep area around printers clean
  • Change rolls of paper, learn how to change rolls on all High-Speed Machines
  • Give operator breaks
  • Check quality of machines
  • Additional duties and projects as assigned


  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand and power tools
  • Ability to comprehend and execute complex written and verbal job specifications and instructions
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing complex job specifications and instructions
  • Strong skills in math and ruling; attention to precision and detail and a desire to achieve customer satisfaction
  • Demonstrated openness to process improvement and change
  • Ability to read equipment manuals, directions, schedules and tickets (English) and communicate to operators and other staff members
  • Ability to trouble shoot when problems surface in the envelopes being produced or in the functions of the equipment.
  • Good attendance and punctuality and willingness to work overtime as needed

Education:

  • High school degree or equivalent

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to walk and stand continuously for long periods of time
  • Talk or hear, both in person and by telephone
  • Reach with hands and arms
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull/leverage up to 75 lbs.

Mental Demands

  • Regularly required to use written and oral communication skills
  • Will interact regularly with managers and staff regarding building issues
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision

Work Environment

  • Employee works primarily in a manufacturing warehouse with a loud to very loud noise environment. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided.
