The JM Family College Internship program is designed to create an opportunity for college students to have meaningful work experiences that tie to their programs of study. Students in the program will actively contribute to their team's success, learn about JM Family's company and culture and obtain new skills through learning opportunities and networking events. The individual selected for this internship will be responsible for supporting their department in a variety of functions and will have exposure to activities related to the department's initiatives. The intern will also gain access to professional development opportunities through the internship program.





3 Month Full-Time Paid Summer Intern Position

Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC, a division of JM Family, one of FORTUNE's best companies to work for, has an immediate opening in our Vehicle Processing Centers (VPC) located in Jacksonville, Florida for a paid part-time, temporary Engineering Intern for a three month period. Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC is the world's largest independent distributor of Toyota vehicles. The company distributes vehicles, parts and accessories to 177 independent Toyota dealers in the five-state region of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and North and South Carolina. We are seeking one Engineering Intern with a strong desire to learn and grow their academic knowledge as a partner in our professional environment.

As a member of Southeast Toyota's Product Development department, the intern will assist the team in a variety of functions. This will include, but is not limited to:

  • Assist in the development of Automotive Components.
  • Perform benchmarking of competitive vehicles to determine target specifications.
  • Develop commodity level standards for automotive accessories based off competitive benchmarking.
  • Review Supplier Corrective Action Reports for root cause definition, interim containment, and permanent corrective action.
  • Review and revise attachment methods for automotive accessories. Develop improved design standards for mechanical attachments.
  • Assist in teardown, cost analysis of vehicle accessories to develop commodity cost models.
  • Adhere to safety and quality policy and procedures and support site/department compliance objectives.
  • Other projects or duties assigned by manager.


Job Requirements

Internship Requirements

  • Pursuing Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or equivalent and maintaining a satisfactory grade point average (3.0 above).
  • Candidates should be at least at Junior level in coursework.
  • General understanding of mechanical components and systems from coursework.
  • Microsoft Excel experience with data entry and basic formulas required.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow effectively.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and manage complexity effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous automotive industry experience desired but not required.
  • Ability to travel between two VPC locations in Jacksonville as needed - one on Talleyrand Avenue and one on Pritchard Road to perform job duties. This will require a personal vehicle.
