On March 8 - 11, Deerwood Center hosted a pool tournament with 16 participants slated into the fray. The prize: a well-respected Playersr cue stick and the winner was Richard Valdez. The event was open to all the students and was sponsored by the Deerwood Center SGA. Marvin Young, the vice-president, was the facilitator and referee; he was the person responsible for the whole event, which was, Deerwood is glad to say, rather buoyant. Marvin is a billiard man and would have entered into the tournament if it weren't for his conflict of interest, but his love for the game is unmatchable.
It was Richard Valdez, though, who jutted into the slot of victory. He beat out Jared Montgomery, an amateur and vital yet equally respectable player. "Richard's a pretty good pool-player," Marvin said. "He's a funny guy, too."
Being the easy-going, content person Richard is, he has offered Jared a shot at redemption. Sometime shortly, the two will be holding an exhibition match where winner takes the stick. Can Jared redeem his loss and beat the adept Richard? We shall see.
